Canteen Uniforms 2026

A slightly different SALTY POST this week.

Less of a wandering thought, more of an actual bit of news.

I’ve recently had the pleasure of illustrating and designing the new uniforms for Canteen at Mount Hawke.

What started as a small creative job quickly became something I felt really connected to. Canteen has become such a lovely part of life here. A place full of good food, good people, muddy boots, morning coffees, cinnamon buns, and that particular kind of community that grows quietly around a shared table.

So it felt pretty special to be trusted with creating something that would become part of the fabric of the place.

The new tees are now available to buy from the café, and you’ll also be seeing them out in the wild, worn by the wonderful Canteen team at Wilderness Festival, Rock Oyster, and a whole host of other ambitious wood-fired feasts they have coming up.

I’ve always loved the idea that illustrations don’t have to live quietly on a page.

Sometimes they get to travel.

Sometimes they become part of someone’s everyday.

Sometimes they end up covered in flour, smoke, coffee, and good memories.

For these designs, I wanted to capture a little bit of what makes Canteen feel like Canteen, rooted in its surroundings, full of character, playful, and never taking itself too seriously.

A little nod to Carrot the dog had to be included, of course.

It’s been a lovely project to be part of and a reminder of one of my favourite things about living here, the unexpected ways people, places, and ideas find each other.

Big thanks to the Canteen crew for trusting me with it.

And to @leighhrosee for the photos, who also happens to be my housemate, because Cornwall continues to be wonderfully full of these strange little connections.
